What does a Maid of Honor really do?

The task of selecting the maid of honor is one of the most difficult decisions that any bride has to make.  That’s because her duties aren’t always so clear cut.  And every bride typically has her own opinion on what a maid of honor should do.  Throw in family and friend dynamics and you can see why it’s so hard!

In a nutshell, the maid of honor needs to attend all wedding activities such as showers and parties for the bride as well as keep track of gifts.  However, if no one else is planning a shower, she is responsible for planning it.  She’s also the one who plans the bachelorette party.  Not to mention that she should assist in organizing invitations and always be open for any help that the bride needs.

At the wedding, the maid of honor will help the bride get dressed as well as help with her train and hold the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony.  She is also a witness and signs the marriage certificate.

To sum it up, being a maid of honor is a big job.  She’s got to be a multitasker who enjoys planning, but mostly importantly she needs to be someone who wants to help you!

Quick Tip:  A maid of honor has a big job.  While someone who loves multi tasking is great, their biggest requirement should be that they want to help you.
