Planning a Mississippi wedding and not sure how to apply for a marriage license?
Here’s what you need to know:
Applying for a marriage license in MS has never been easier. Effective June 1, 2012, couples wishing to apply for a marriage license do not have to undergo blood tests. This is a big relief for a lot of brides and grooms that are terrified of needles! I have heard couples jokingly say they can’t get married because they just can not handle the blood test! You do not have to worry about this anymore.
Also, the three (3) day waiting period has been removed so you can apply for a marriage license and get married on the same day.
You do not have to be a resident of Mississippi to apply for a marriage license. This makes it so much easier for couples having destination weddings in Mississippi.
To apply you simply go to the Circuit Clerk’s office in any county in the state of Mississippi. However, in the event that the female applicant shall be under the age of twenty-one (21) years of age, and is a resident of the State of Mississippi, the application of marriage shall be made to the Circuit Clerk’s of the county of residence of the parent or legal guardian of such female applicant.
You need to bring a photo ID with you to apply, such as a driver’s license or military ID.
The Mississippi marriage license issued is only valid in Mississippi.
Fee: $21+
