The Summer Slump: How to Stay Productive When You Don’t Have Clients Yet

Let’s be honest—starting your wedding planning business is exciting, but it can also feel discouraging when the inquiries aren’t rolling in like you hoped. Summer is often a slower season for newer planners who haven’t built momentum yet… and that can lead to what I call the summer slump.

But here’s the good news: slower seasons are the perfect time to build the strong foundation your business needs.

If you’re not booking clients yet, that doesn’t mean you’re failing. It just means you have time to work on your business before you’re deep in the day-to-day of working in it.

What to Do When Your Wedding Planning Business Is Slow

Here’s how to make the most of this quiet season:

1. Build and Refine Your Planning Workflows

Before you’re juggling multiple weddings, take time to organize your process from inquiry to wedding day.
Ask yourself:

  • What steps will I walk my clients through?
  • How will I track tasks and timelines?
  • What tools or platforms will I use (like Aisle Planner, HoneyBook, or Trello)?

Pro tip: Create email templates and client checklists now—you’ll thank yourself later.

2. Audit and Strengthen Your Brand Presence

Does your website clearly explain who you help and how? Is your Instagram bio client-focused or just a pretty placeholder?

Now’s the time to:

  • Update your website copy
  • Choose consistent brand colors and fonts
  • Revisit your messaging to make sure it speaks to your ideal client

Your goal: When someone lands on your page, they should feel like you’re exactly what they’ve been looking for.

3. Improve Your Inquiry & Booking Process

Even without inquiries coming in, you can still prep for when they do.
Set up:

  • A contact form that gathers key details
  • A welcome email or brochure to send immediately
  • A pricing guide or PDF that explains your services
  • A scheduler link to easily book calls

The smoother your process, the more confident (and professional) you’ll appear.

4. Start (or Grow) Your Pinterest with Local Keyword-Rich Boards

Pinterest is a powerful tool for wedding planners—and including your local area in your boards can make a huge difference.

If you haven’t started Pinterest yet, or want to grow your account strategically:

  • Create a Pinterest Business account if you don’t have one
  • Set up boards with keywords that include your city, state, or region (for example, “Meridian MS Wedding Planning Tips” or “Southern Wedding Ideas & Vendors”)
  • Use local and niche keywords naturally in your board titles and descriptions
  • Pin your own blog posts, freebies, and other helpful content consistently
  • Engage with other local vendors by repinning their content and following relevant accounts

Why does this matter? Many couples search Pinterest for local wedding inspiration and vendors near them. When you use local keywords, your pins are more likely to show up in those searches — helping you attract your ideal clients in your area.

One Last Thing: You’re Not Behind

If you’re feeling like the only one not booking weddings right now, you’re not alone. Every successful planner has been exactly where you are. What matters is how you use this season.

Slow doesn’t mean stagnant—it’s your invitation to build something sustainable, intentional, and client-ready.
